One of the things that a certified home inspector will be on the lookout for when inspecting the home is unwanted residents. No, not your in-laws. I'm talking about pests. There are a number of them that may take up residence in a home without permission, and some of these can cause extensive damage. With the ability to damage the structure and present health hazards, it's no wonder that home inspectors will be looking for signs of pest infestations.

Bed bugs were nearly completely eradicated during the 1950's. Since that time they have come roaring back and are now causing problems in many locations. Bed bug removal can be difficult, and bed bugs are easily spread from one location to another. With half a century of bed bug reprieve now over, many are forced to do battle with these creatures.

Many people feel that ants are harmless. Many types do not bite, and though they can be a nuisance when you're having a picnic, who do they really harm? Any home inspector would surely tell you that while most ants will not physically harm you, they can cost you a lot of money. Carpenter ants can cause massive amounts of damage to homes, with infestations being difficult to handle.
