The picturesque city of Coronado lies on a peninsula five miles southwest of San Diego city proper. With a population of only 24,697 this small, affluent resort community with an island feel, boasts what was ranked as the second best beach in the country in 2011.
Here can be found, running along Ocean Boulevard with a back drop of fine homes and mansions, Coronado Beach. In addition to the famous Coronado Beach, three other beaches can be found circling the peninsula. Glorietta Bay Beach, Silver Strand State Beach and Ferry Landing Marketplace. Each with their own unique appeal for fun filled days lounging in the sun or relaxing in the water.

One of the world's top resorts, the grand Hotel del Coronado, is also located here. A National Historic Landmark, this renowned hotel has attracted visitors from around the world and has made an appearance in many films since it's construction in 1844. Many of the country's most notable figures in film, sports and politics have been counted amongst it's guests.

In Coronado, or Coronado Island as it is also known, estimated median house or condo value in 2009 was $808,870, making it one of the most expensive places to live in the country. However, it's year round temperate climate, very low crime rate (a ranking of 110, with 318 being the national average) combined with it's elegant beauty and reputation as a luxurious resort town, make it one of the most desirable places to live in the country.

As the home of Naval Base Coronado, and the city's top employer, many of Coronado's residents are naval members and their families. There are several schools, both public and private, a hospital, and churches of several different denominations around the city adding to it's livability as more than just a resort community. Popular community events are the 4th of July Independance Day celebrations and the Coronado Flower Show on the third weekend in April. Happenings on the 4th include a 15k Run/Walk at dawn, a rough-water swim at North Beach, the famous two-hour parade along Orange Avenue, Art-in-the-Park, a concert in Spreckels Park, and a spectacular fireworks display over Glorietta Bay.

Hotel Del Coronado and two other major resorts, the Coronado Island Marriott and Loews Coronado Bay Resort, along with several other smaller hotels and inns serve as accommodation to tourists here. In the downtown area are found many shops, theaters, and  highly rated restaurants offering a wide variety of cuisine choices. For visitors and local residents alike, the bike-friendly city is dotted with amenities such as a municipal pool, an 18 hole golf course, 19 tennis courts, public marina, skate park and 15 miles of dedicated bike and rollerblading paths.
